From Ani Dadron: My dog Gretchen died peacefully last week while we were up in Maryland. She's buried on my friends farm near the miniature donkey's corral. Thanks to all for your kind words about the good ole big red dog. She was a sweetheart.

Wanda Wester passed away on April 30, 2009 in Destin, FL. She lived in Mountain Park beginning in the early 1980s and moved to Florida a few years ago. Wanda was known for her happiness, enthusiasm and style. Her daughters, India and Adrian Fessenden, were with her when she passed at Sacred Heart Hospital, as was lifelong, loyal friend Marcia Oliver of Mountain Park.

Wanda’s accomplishments included originating the original "Christmas House" in the Mountain Park Civic Building -- representing dozens of artists and open to the public for several days in the fall – and a “Wanda Wear” line of clothing. She earned an art degree from the University of GA and studied in Italy. Her artistry was reflected in her residential and commercial mural and faux paintings, as well as her gardening and home design -- she designed and built two houses on Eastlake Drive. Wanda she will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.

(Thank you, Hope Mays, for the obituary.)

Wanda was a resident of Fort Walton Beach, Florida for the last 6 years and previously lived in Mountain Park, GA. and Athens, GA. Wanda was born February 2, 1952 and grew up in Bainbridge, GA where she graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1970, followed by art studies at the University of Georgia and private instructions in Europe. Wanda was an artist that worked in many mediums including stained glass, acrylic, and oils. Her work has been displayed in studios and sold extensively throughout the South. It was the light and colors of the Gulf Coast that lead her to Fort Walton Beach.

Wanda’s love was shared wholly and completely with her husband Reggie Veteto, and her two daughters, India Fessenden and Adrian Fessenden of Pensacola, FL. Mourning their loss also are her sister Sharon Shelton of Marietta, GA, and brothers, Buddy Wester and Chuck Wester of Bainbridge, GA. She was preceded in passing by her parents Tommy Wester and Jeannine Brooks Wester of Bainbridge, GA; paternal grandparents R.T. and Minnie Wester of Bainbridge, GA; and maternal grandparents Charlie and Laverne Brooks of Colquitt, GA. Wanda’s heroic battle and her family’s support through many obstacles were a testament to where love can lead you through hardships beyond our control. The family asks that everyone embrace life’s beauty as heartily as Wanda did.

Bill Gray, resident Kendall Gray’s father, has passed away at the age of 89 years. Bill Gray was first given property in Mountain Park in the 30s and bought the “hunting cabin” where the Gray family currently resides with “Navy money” after World War II. According to Kendall, his father used to dive off a platform in the middle of Lake Garret and swim underwater all the way to the lake edge near The Stand.

Bill Gray will be missed by his family and friends. Sincere condolences are extended to them.
